A Review of the Uniblue WinBackup Program

We were looking for a cheap, schedulable and easy to use backup program. We did a review of the Uniblue software RegistryBooster and SpeedUpMyPC programs and found them to be excellent utility programs. Uniblue has another program called WinBackup that we decided to put to the test. As for the purpose of this review or walkthrough of the WinBackup utility, let’s say we just need to back up some documents on a daily basis and take them home on a flash drive. WinBackup 2.0 Professional seems to be a good choice of backup software for the task.

This is just a simple tutorial to test the speed and reliability of the backup program. WinBackup Professional is flexible for home use or large networks. Uniblue software has also added an Outlook agent in this program to save those important emails in a safe spot. Let’s see how it works.

WinBackup 2.0 Professional

The installation of the WinBackup software went so smooth that it is hardly worth mentioning. When the program was started, it showed the following screen. You could see a WinBackup demo or create a new backup job. Let’s create a new job.

Welcome screen for WinBackup

Once the create a new job button was clicked, the following screenshot came up. It looks to be as easy as 1 – 2 – 3. This backup job is named WinBackup Test and then clicked to Select the files to be backed up.

Create a new WinBackup Job

For this test, I just clicked a few essential folders. I chose to backup the Desktop, Favorites, and the My Documents folder.

Select Files to Back up.

I selected the target location of a one gigabyte flash drive and created a folder called WinBackup Test to store the backup files.

Select the Target Location For the Backup job

There are many different job settings to choose from for the backup job. You can choose to exclude files or compress them. There is also a security setting to secure your backed up files which is a nice feature to have in the program.

Different WinBackup Configurations

The next screen is where the job can be scheduled for a daily, weekly or monthly backup job to run.

I smacked the Run Backup tab.

Run Backup

I had to smack it again, they just want to make sure this is what you want to do I guess.

Run Backup again

The backup went quick. WinBackup backed up about 72 megabytes in 27 seconds as you can see on the backup status screen.

The Uniblue WinBackup utility did a fine job of backing up the chosen files. Now let’s see how the restore feature performs. This is a shot of the My Documents folder before I delete some of the contents.

My Deleted Documents

Hope the restore works. You notice that I deleted my “wab” folder. That is the folder where the What’s A Byte site is stored. I hit the button to restore files then selected the backup files to restore.. Notice you do not have to restore all the files but, for this review of WinBackup, all the files will be restored.

Choose Files to restore with WinBackup
Select Location To Restore

I smacked Run Restore button.

Click on Run Restore

Whew! The WinBackup restore function worked just as well as the backup process. Uniblue truly is software made easy. I can’t find any reason to do anything but give the WinBackup software a Brontobyte on a scale from bytes to brontobytes!

Stop over to Uniblue to find out more!

The backup files WinBackup created should be stored in a safe spot away from the physical computer. We recommend a large flash drive or an external hard drive. Check some of our recommended storage solutions.
