Ascentive PC SpeedScan Pro
I have been hearing a lot of good things about the Computer Optimization Software release of the Ascentive PC SpeedScan Pro. I heard wrong! It claims to get those gigabytes of data you have accumulated straightened out and get your computer running like new again. PC SpeedScan claims to fix registry errors that can make your computer slow while it sorts through the errors as you are accessing your programs and files. Apparently it does not work too well. See our recommended computer optimization programs here.
After hearing some of the user complaints about the Ascentive software, you may want to stick with computer optimization programs that have stood the test of time. Here are some good reviews on SpeedUpMyPC 2009, TuneUp Utilities 2009, and Optimize 2.0 - definitely worth a look!
The UniBlue PowerSuite
|
The SpeedScan Pro optimization program supposedly makes your computer finally fast by finding missing Windows shortcuts, shared files, application paths and missing or invalid file extensions. It also lets you know about possible missing device drivers. Those are common problems that are possible to fix without a utility but PC SpeedScan Pro makes fixing those problems easy. The program scans your computer, lets you know what the problems are, and then fixes them for you.
I was always a little skeptical about the free scan programs that are available so I wanted to take a closer look. Here is what to expect from the PC SpeedScan Pro computer optimization utility. Trust me, it's not good!

The installation of PC SpeedScan Pro was an uneventful one. When the installation finishes, SpeedScan offers to start the program. I clicked Finish.

This is the first screen you will see when you start PC SpeedScan Pro better known as Finally Fast. The program tells you what problems it can fix with a single mouse click. I clicked on the Scan Now button to get it started.

This is what PC SpeedScan Pro looks like in action.

When the PC SpeedScan optimization utility was done scanning, it quickly found a total of 46 errors in a computer that I thought was running pretty good.

PC SpeedScan Pro allows you to see the specifics of the errors it found. The program informs you that removing these errors will remarkably improve the performance of your PC. This is a Microsoft Certified program so the chances of it ruining your computer are very slim, or so we thought. We are truly surprised that Microsoft Certified this program!

The PC SpeedScan optimization program also gives you a few options to keep your computer running smooth once you have fixed the annoying errors that it found. You can start the program when Windows starts and schedule optimization scans. It also allows you to restore previously removed files and registry settings. That is handy if for some reason the program removed some important files or settings from your computer.

We never actually did a full review of the PC SpeedScan optimization program and it’s a good thing. We just wanted to show you what to expect when you did a free scan with the utility. The program looked like it could be interesting with a couple new features but thanks to all of the user comments below, we can say that the SpeedScan program is not a recommended program. Stick with the computer optimization programs that work.
After hearing too many complaints about the Ascentive SpeedScan Pro software, you may want to stick with computer optimization programs that have stood the test of time. Here are some good reviews on SpeedUpMyPC 2009, TuneUp Utilities 2009, and Optimize 2.0 - definitely worth a look!

If you have already installed PC SpeedScan Pro and need to remove the Ascentive software, simply go to the control panel, click on Add Remove Programs in XP or Programs and Features in Vista, and simply remove the programs. You need to uninstall PC SpeedScan Pro and the Performance center. Apparently there are problems uninstalling PC SpeedScan Pro. See how to remove SpeedScan here.

I installed Asentive PC and my system and it doesn't work, more importantly it really gummed up my system and it won't work at all. I keep getting a blue screen everytime I try to log on and it won't even let me print the screen to see how to fix the problem. I tried restoring my system to an earlier date, prior to the instatll, and it works for about 5 minutes then I get the blue screen again. Anyone have any suggestions? Tomas |

I seen the finallyfast / Ascentive commercial and I thought I would give Speed Scan a try. What a mistake that was. Three major problems with the software; it does not work, it is almost impossible to uninstall and I am still trying to get my money back after two weeks. The worst part is that Windows does need to be cleaned up once in awhile. I have used the Uniblue Speed Up My PC utility in the past – I will stick with that program from now on. |

speed pro will not allow me to remove or uninstall from my XP add/remove sections. There is no button to remove, just an about button. How do I get this off my system. I did not purchase any of the programs and each program must be purchased. This is a BUST. |

Here is what worked for me...individual results could vary..to uninstall this program you should download "revo uninstaller" there are two instances of it, performance center and pc pro. there are different scans you can do. I used the safe scan and removed it and its registry entries using revo uninstaller. You can also mess up your computer using revo uninstaller so if you do more than the safe just be cautious. good luck. |

I have been building computers since 1988 this is the biggest scam since Y2K of 2000! Claims to have found 786 errors on my computer. Used it, made NO difference at all. I wanted something simple to maintain my computer, but after this I will just do the old way. please don't waste your money. This company should be removed and a class action lawsuit should placed against them. At this point the only thing that we can do is, every time you their TV ad, contact the TV station you see it on and tell to remove this add or you will quit watching their station. |

The "PC Speedscan Pro" program most certainly attempts or will install a Win32: Trojan-Gen on your system during installation. I ran a scan on the .exe file first, but it showed up clean. Fortunately, I use Avast, which constantly scans my system, and caught the attempt to install the Trojan before the installation of the PC Speedscan Pro software was installed. I saw this software advertised on television claiming several popular endorsements. My advice: DO NOT USE "PC SPEEDSCAN PRO" period! Trust me, I am an A+, Network+ Technician and have been building and fixing computers for years. I can count on one hand the number of Viruses/Trojans that have made it through to my systems in over 15 years. In other words, I am extremely careful and diligent when it comes to protecting my computers and my customer's. - Steven, aka AwareOne |
As you can see from the user comments, PC SpeedScan Pro seems to be garbage. The computer optimization utilities below all have great reviews and do what they are supposed to do. PC SpeedScan is not a recommended program. Compare the PC Optimization programs below.
