XZ Backup Online Backup Review

We have been hearing some great things about the XZ Backup online backup solution so we just had to put it to the test in this review.  This solution backs up just about any operating system platform including Windows, Linux and Macs making it a truly versatile online backup solution.  XZ Backup also backs up all of the major database formats including Microsoft SQL, Oracle and MySQL.  It also has the capability to backup Microsoft Exchange servers and Lotus Notes/Domino.  Here is the review of the XZ Backup Advanced Online Backup Solution.

Once you have signed up for the XZ online backup service and log in to your account, you are brought to this screen.  There are two steps to the installation.  Update my profile and time zone and then install the software.  I updated the time zone and then clicked on the Windows icon and was prompted to download the XZ Backup software.

Then simply run the executable file to install the software.

The installation was uneventful.  When the install was finished, the following screen prompted me to create a new backup set with the backup set wizard.  I clicked on the Advanced button for some more options.

After clicking on the Advanced option I was prompted to find a backup source for the online backup job.  You notice that the XZ Backup software picked up all of my drives and I could also backup other computers on my network from this screen.  For this review of the XZ Online Backup Solution, I chose to back up the WAB folder.  That is the folder that the What’s A Byte website is stored in and clicked the OK Button.

Then you are prompted to set a backup schedule.  I chose to backup this folder every day.

Then I was given the option to change the encryption key.  I chose to just use my default user login name and password and clicked Save.

Once the online backup job was created, I was brought to the XZ Online Backup Manager where the obvious choice at this point would be to smack the Backup Button so I did so. 

The online backup was successful in 1 minute and 47 seconds for almost 15 Megabytes. 

To test the restore process of the XZ Backup Online Backup solution, I deleted the WAB folder.  I really hope the restore works!

From the XZ Backup Manager Control panel I clicked on the Restore button.  From the restore menu I chose to restore the WAB folder to its original location and clicked Start Restore.  Hope this works.

XZ Backup said that the restore completed successfully in a little over 2-minutes.

The restore was indeed successful and I even received an email telling me so. 

Another great feature of the XZ Online Backup Service is the ability to retrieve your files from anywhere in the world.  All you have to do is log into your account from any Internet connection, from any computer, and select the files you want restored.  Simply click the restore button and choose where you want the files restored.

The XZ Advanced Backup solution backed up and restored the selected folder quickly and easily.  Granted this was just a short test of the backup solution but XZ Backup has the capability to back up everything on your computer or network with just as much success as this test.  If you have a lot of Gigabytes to back up initially, XZ Backup supplies you with the equipment to do a fast initial backup using their Big Backup Quickstart option which allows you to do a physical transfer of large amounts of data.  The XZ Backup online backup solution is a recommended online backup solution.
