TuneUp Utilities 2012

Review of the New Features of TuneUp Utilities 2012

TuneUp Utilities 2012 has been released with some impressive new improvements and enhancements to the overall program to help keep computers optimized for speed and performance.  The problem is that the user often degrades performance by constant use, and in some cases abuse, of Windows computers.  Not the users fault.  It seems that at some point of the Windows evolution that the Operating System would “learn” to clean up after itself but that is not the case.  That is where TuneUp Utilities 2012 comes in handy.

What’s new in TuneUp Utilities and what does it do?

This new release identifies and solves the problems that decrease a PC’s performance over time.  Many of the problems associated with the degradation of a computer stems from third party software that bogs a system down by adding services that run in the background, ultimately and sometimes permanently, impacting the way hardware component resources are distributed.

Other problems plaguing Windows computers that TuneUp Utilities addresses are common problems caused by everyday use of the system that need to be fixed or cleaned to insure the best performance and reliability.  Data and Registry clutter or buildup need to be sorted out and cleaned up, increased disk usage caused by temporary files and log files need to be deleted, registry errors and bloat need to be fixed and many other common Widows problems are addressed within the TuneUp program.

The newest addition to the program is the TuneUp Economy Mode, which increases battery life and decreases energy consumption.  When Economy Mode is activated, all non-essential background applications and services are disabled to reduce power usage.  They are not uninstalled, just disabled.  If they are needed for a particular program, they are still readily available.  TuneUp Utilities 2012 incorporates ways to improve power efficiency. The latest software version prevents PC hardware components from delivering too much power when it is not really needed and wasting energy in the process thus achieving longer battery life and using less energy in the process.  Here is an Economy Mode screenshot:

This release also has an improved TuneUp Program Deactivator that turns off resource hungry programs and their associated components when they are not in use and are re-enabled on demand so you can still use them when needed.  New to this version is the ability for the program to turn the program back off when done and a new Program Deactivator Wizard to introduce you to the new tool.  Here is what the Program Deactivator looks like:

How TuneUp Program Deactivator Works

One of the tools that made TuneUp Utilities a must have tool is the Automatic Maintenance and 1-Click Maintenance feature.  You can schedule TuneUp to run as scheduled or you can start the tasks in 1-Click.  Most of the tasks could be done manually if you are a particularly Geeky computer user but who has the time.  Let TuneUp take care of the monotonous stuff.  Here is a screenshot of 1-Click Maintenance in action:

There are also several other valuable tools included in the program to optimize your computer and increase the stability:

  • TuneUp Live Optimization – Works silently in the background to improve the prioritization of all active applications to balance resources more effectively
  • TuneUp Startup Manager - detects recently added programs and shows useful information on the relevance of each program allowing you to identify and manage the startup routine
  • Turbo Mode – Allows you to turn off more than 70 unnecessary Windows services and processes to dedicate all resources to the application being used
  • Increase Performance Wizard – Presents you with a list of recommendations to detect and solve performance related issues
  • TuneUp Registry Defrag – Cleans a bloated registry and restores it to a faster and more reliable state
  • TuneUp Undelete - Restores accidentally deleted files as long as Windows has not yet overwritten the disk space that was previously occupied by them. You can easily browse for all previously deleted data, or search for one specific file and rescue it

Overall TuneUp Utilities 2012 has some nice improvements and has built on their already highly rated computer optimization utility.  Even with the new advancements in the Operating Systems, unfortunately we still need to use a tool to keep computers clean and running at the top performance.  TuneUp Utilities is bundled with all the tools needed for the task.
