TuneUp Utilities 2012

TuneUp Utilities Review

The software enables Windows 7, XP and Vista users to get their Computers into top shape with a number of new tuning features and enhancements of its trusted optimization tools. TuneUp Utilities 2012 is designed to keep PCs running smoothly, extend their lifecycles and provide your computer with a noticeable boost in speed and performance.

TuneUp 2012 has been released, See our review here.

For this review of TuneUp Utilities , a laptop will be used.  An Intel Core 2 processor with 2 Gigabytes of memory powers this particular laptop and it seems to be running slow and seems to take a long time to boot.  Let us see if this utility can breath some life back into it.

TuneUp Utilities keeps Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 clean, disables unnecessary programs and gives you the best system performance whether your computer is used for work or play. More than 12 years of Windows optimization experience has gone into developing the software, and that is something one can sense right away.

TuneUp Utilities has always had enough tools to keep your computer running at its optimal performance and now there are even more.

  • TuneUp Turbo Mode
  • TuneUp Live Optimization
  • Windows 7 Support
  • TuneUp Gadget
  • TuneUp Optimization Report
  • Automatic Maintenance
  • Redesigned Start Center
  • Greater Ease of Use

The Installation was uneventful.  After starting the program, the first noticeable improvement is the category of utilities.  Previous versions were broken up into seven categories and TuneUp 2010 has only four. From the new Start Center you can Maintain your system, Increase computer performance, Fix problems and Customize Windows to your liking.

Each category has its own set of functions as demonstrated with these screenshots.

The Maintain system panel allows you to schedule when you want the utility to run and start the 1-Click-Maintenance feature.  All Functions allow you to optimize system startup and shutdown, defragment hard drives, remove broken shortcuts, defragment, and clean the registry.

The Maintain System panel

The Increase Performance panel allows you to configure live optimization, free up disk space, configure system start and display and uninstall programs.

These two sections allow you to fix problems and customize Windows.  You can manage running programs, restore deleted files, check the hard disk for errors and fix common problems.  The customization of Windows is self-explanatory but TuneUp 2010 puts all of the customizations in one place.

Fix Problems and Customize Windows

TuneUp Utilities likes you to create a profile for your particular computer usage before running the increase performance utility.  A few basic questions gets you through this task.

Create a TuneUp 2010 Profile

After creating a profile TuneUp Utilities offered ten recommendations to increase computer performance.  Clicking on the Show Details link showed all of the optimizations recommended and I chose to optimize all.

The next step is the 1-Click-Maintenance function.  Each previously mentioned panel would allow you to run each of these tasks manually but who has the time for that.  The 1-Click-Maintenance function allows you to take care of all of the tasks with, well, just one click.  TuneUp found some problems and recommendations to improve the computers performance so naturally I smacked the run maintenance button to fix the problems.

TuneUp 1-Click-Maintenance

When the maintenance was complete, all problems were fixed and all systems were green and green is good!

Other options included in the TuneUp utility are the ability to configure your own Turbo Mode and Live Optimization essentially giving you an on demand boost in system performance for dedicated programs.

TuneUp Utilities gives you a multitude of tools to optimize your computer and keep it running at its peak performance in an easy to use interface.  There are too many features to include in this review of TuneUp so review it for yourself.  You can try it for 30-days free.

We have reviewed previous versions of the utility and it has always performed very well.  This version proves to be a nice upgrade with the new features that have been added to the computer optimization program.  We give it a thumbs up, or in What’s A Byte speak, an honorable Brontobyte on a scale of Bytes to Brontobytes.
