TuneUp Utilities 2013 has just been released with new features including new disk and browser cleaning tools that can eliminate files and temporary data from more than 150 popular programs, 25 Windows features and 25 Web browsers, to protect against PC performance problems resulting from system use. See all of the new features of the computer optimization utility.
The newest version has a new, improved, and easier to use interface and a very useful 1-Click Maintenance feature to keep your computer running at its peak performance level. The previous version proved to be quite impressive so we just had to do a review of TuneUp Utilities to see just how much they could improve an already useful utility.

The computer being used for this review of TuneUp Utilities is a Dell Optiplex with an Intel Core 2 Duo 6300 processor running at 1.86GHz with 1.00 GB of memory running Windows Vista Ultimate. It is a pretty quick computer but it has been abused a bit while testing and reviewing products. Let’s see how much more performance we can get out of this system.
The Windows Task Manager is always a good tool to use to check for PC performance. Before using the TuneUp utility, the task manager was reporting 438 Megabytes of used Memory and 784 Megabyte of Page File usage.
The installation of TuneUp Utilities was uneventful. TuneUp offers a free trial of the software so you can try it for yourself before you buy it, you can download a copy here.
When the utility I started you are welcomed to the TuneUp Utilities start page where you can find all of the useful tools the utility has to offer. I was prompted to check the Speed and System Status areas for optimization suggestions. The speed area wanted me to fill out a questionnaire about how the PC is used so it could offer some optimization suggestions.
The questions were quite simple. It just wanted to know the Internet connection speed, visual effect importance and what services and devices were used on the computer.
After filling out the questionnaire, I clicked on the Speed details and 12 recommendations for increasing the performance of this system. I smacked the Optimize All button.
Now the Start Page shows that the Speed was fully optimized but I needed to check the System Status area. There was one problem found that might negatively impact the system status so clicked to see further details of the problem.
System Status details stated that I have never checked drive C for errors and recommended that the TuneUp Disk Doctor check for errors. I let it do so.
Then the TuneUp Disk Doctor needed to restart Windows to complete the analysis so I quickly saved this page and naturally smacked the Finish button.
After the restart, all is well on the TuneUp Utilities Start Page.
From the main menu there are several options to optimize your computer. I will run them all to see if I can gain any speed from this computer, but if I were to show screenshots of every step this would be a very long review of TuneUp Utilities. This utility is packed with everything that you could ever need in a computer optimization program.
Under the Increase Performance tab there are options to use the TuneUp Drive Defrag, TuneUp Registry Defrag, TuneUp Speed Optimizer and a TuneUp StartUp Manager with detailed information about what each utility can do to optimize your computer.
The Free Up Disk Space button gives you suggested items for cleanup and the TuneUp Disk Explorer to show detailed drive space occupied.
The Clean up Windows Button offers the following utilities:
- TuneUp 1 Click Maintenance
- TuneUp Registry Cleaner
- Tune Up Shortcut Cleaner
- TuneUp Uninstall Manager
The Solve Problems Button gives you the following utilities:
- TuneUp Disk Doctor
- TuneUp Repair Wizard
- TuneUp Undelete to recover lost files
The Customize Windows Button offers the following solutions:
- TuneUp Styler
- TuneUp System Control
The Additional Tools Button offers the following tools:
- TuneUp Process Manager
- TuneUp Registry Editor
- TuneUp Shredder
- TuneUp System Information
All of these tools are valuable, time saving PC optimization utilities to have in one place.
The One-Click Maintenance feature is another nice feature of TuneUp Utilities. After clicking on the 1-Click Maintenance button, it showed that potential optimizations have been found. I clicked the Correct Problems Button to fix any problems the utility found.
When it was done, all was well.
You can also specify the One-Click Maintenance Mode. 1-Click Maintenance checks the computer for common problems that may affect the performance or reliability of the PC and eliminates them automatically. This is where you can schedule the computer maintenance.
After running most of the utilities included with TuneUp Utilities, the Windows Task Manager has a story to tell. Before running TuneUp Utilities, the computer was using 438 Megabytes of available RAM, running 63 processes and using 784 Megabytes of the page file. After running the computer optimization utility, the PC is only using 379 Megabytes of available memory, running 52 processes and 536 Megabytes of the page file. That is quite an improvement!
The TuneUp Utilities PC optimization program is an easy to use utility to bring your computer back to its peak performance, and keep it optimized, with a very easy to use interface. The utility did everything that it claimed that it could do and for that reason, TuneUp Utilities gets an honorable Brontobyte on a scale of Bytes to Brontobytes. This is a recommended utility to have in your toolbox to keep computers running at their optimal performance.
TuneUp Utilities 2013 has been released with some nice new and improved features to keep your PC in top shape. New to the program is the TuneUp Disk Cleaner that removes computer garbage files and the TuneUp browser that removes online tracks left from Internet browsing sessions. The new version is also Windows 8 compatible.
