Megabytes, Gigabytes, Terabytes… What Are They?
Optimize your Registry with RegistryBooster 2010

Review of RegistryBooster

UniBlue has just released the newest version of the already powerful registry cleaner and optimization utility and it is appropriately called RegistryBooster 2010. See our review of RegistryBooster 2010

RegistryBooster claims to speed up your computer by optimizing the registry.  This utility is part of the Uniblue PowerSuite 2010 computer optimization program.   This review of RegistryBooster will put their claims to the test.

This is the same computer used to review the Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC computer optimization program.  The computer is loaded with Windows Vista Ultimate and has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU running at 1.86GHz with one Gigabyte of memory.  Let’s see if optimizing the registry can give it even more speed.  The Windows Task Manager shows that the PC is using 343 Megabytes of memory, running 49 processes and it boots up to a usable desktop in 55 seconds.

The Windows Task Manager before Running RegistryBooster 2009

The first thing to do is download and install RegistryBooster .  It offers a Free Scan so you can try it to see if your registry is corrupt.  If it isn’t corrupt, there is no need to buy the utility but if there are problems with your registry you will need to purchase RegistryBooster to fix any problems the program may find. Uniblue uses the Microsoft.NET framework to install thier software so if you do not have the latest version, you will be prompted to install the framework. It is Okay - It's a Microsoft product.

The new RegistryBooster program requires the .NET framework 3.5 SP1 to work properly. If the .NET installation is failing, please download it and install manually from the following link :
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=ab99342f-5d1a-413d-8319-81da479ab0d7&displaylang=en

Here is a screenshot of the new InstallAware Wizard that Uniblue uses for installation of their products.

The InstallAware Wizard for Registry Booster 2009

The installation was a snap and when it was finished Registry Booster automatically started a scan of the registry.  Here are the results of the scan.  RegistryBooster found 150 registry errors or problems with the registry on this computer.  Seeing how Uniblue is a Microsoft Gold Certified partner, I trusted it to do a complete cleanup of the registry so I smacked the Clean Registry button.

RegistryBooster 2009 found 150 Registry Errors

After clicking the Clean Registry button, the following screen popped up telling me that as a safety precaution, a complete backup of the registry should be performed.  I thought that was a good idea so I clicked Yes to take a full as well as a partial backup of the registry.

It is Recommended to Backup the Registry Before Making any Repairs

When the registry repair was finished, it told me so.  I clicked OK.

Registry Repair is Complete

Then I was shown the Registry Cleanup Results.  RegistryBooster found 150 registry errors and cleaned 150 registry errors.  The program recommended that I restart the computer so I quickly saved this web page and smacked the Restart Now button.

The Registry has been Cleaned of Invalid Entries

After the reboot, I started the program and was reminded that my registry has never been defragged.  The recommendation was to improve system performance; the registry should be defragged regularly.  I was also told that a reboot would be needed and that defragging the registry could not be canceled so I saved this web page.  I wanted to improve the system performance so I clicked the Defrag Registry button.

RegistrBooster 2009 Recommends Defragging the Registry

After the reboot, I shut down the computer and did a cold start.  The boot time is now 50 seconds which is a five second faster boot speed.  That is a noticeable improvement just from running RegistryBooster 2009.  The Windows Task Manager also tells a story.  The total memory usage dropped from 343 Megabytes down to 329 Megabytes which is also quite an improvement.  The improvement stemmed just from fixing 150 registry errors and defragging the registry!

The Windows Task Manager After Running RegistryBooster 2009

This was a pretty fast computer to begin with but RegistryBooster did just what it claimed that it could do; optimize the computer by optimizing the registry to its peak performance.  For that reason RegistryBooster gets an honorable Brontobyte on a scale of bytes to Brontobytes.  This is a recommended registry optimization program to have in your toolbox.

Ian, Not sure why the activation code did not work but you were not ripped off. The code is product specific so you can’t use one code for other products. More information is available here: http://www.uniblue.com/support/myorders/

    By Ian2010-06-06 19:03:50

I purchased the 29.95 registry booster along with the free "system tweaker and i was emailed a "registration key" number that i was told to copy and paste in to the "activate now" field and then hit go. i did this and it continues to say its invalid. I feel i have been ripped off. if anyone can tell me what im doing wrong please do?!

My Experience has been that you get what you pay for.

Isn't this the same thing as ccleaner which works well and is available for free?

    By Pabloz2010-03-17 12:30:08

If it's not killing application run keys then it would be targeting drivers and API calls to services instead, again it would need to be aware of these and know that they're (in most cases) superfluous to be able to kill them without causing problems. In any case, this would still account for the quicker boot time and less RAM usage more than any simple system.dat file-size reduction or optimization. I suppose the point is that the name "registry booster" is more likely to be saleable than "process killer", it was an observation more than a criticism.

    By Warren2010-03-17 11:32:41

A Process is not necessarily an application. RegistryBooster goes far deeper into the registry than just the registry Run Keys which are application keys. I too was skeptical until I tried it for myself and the registry cleaner did indeed kill 5 processes on my PC and it runs just fine without them. Apparently they were unneeded processes in the first place.

    By Pabloz2010-03-16 21:07:40

I'm apt to think that the lower RAM usage in the second Task Manager example is down to the 9 less processes being run (40 instead of 49) and this leads me to ask: What startup processes (Registry run keys) did Registry Booster see fit to kill in order to speed up boot time and release the whole 14MB of RAM? Is it even supposed to be application-aware?

I need Registrybooster plzz

I never buy anything that won't even give me one free try at all it purportedly does ,I may have missed some good programs ,but I feel Im dealing with companys who are proud of what they made and want to show you everything, but if this comes out as a comment I will look into Uniblue more deeply anyway

    By Randy2010-03-12 08:58:58

Bobby, Not sure why you think that Uniblue is “blatantly dishonest”. A Free Scan is just that – a Free Scan to see if there are enough problems in your registry to purchase the product. If you took the time to read this review of RegistryBooster, it says that you will need to purchase the product to fix the errors and the price is clearly displayed. Nothing Deceptive about that is there? If Uniblue were to let you actually use the product, most people would just fix the registry and never buy the product. How is a software company to survive with that business model? UniBlue is a top-notch Microsoft Gold Certified company – a business does not get that prestige without a reason. It just works!

    By Bobby2010-03-11 20:22:27

The issues I have with the product are the same as the issues I have with all Uniblue products: the bait-and-switch tactics they use to get you to install in the first place. The "free scan" offered by their products is ONLY a scan; they will not fix ANYTHING unless you pony up the cash for the full version, whose price is NEVER given up front. If you decide NOT to purchase, well then you've just made your registry that much messier by installing their product and immediately uninstalling it. There are more than a few free registry scanners that work pretty well (remember to backup the registry first just in case), and the really good commercial ones don't resort to the blatantly dishonest tactics that Uniblue uses.

What does "only once instance running' mean?

    By Highwire2009-12-27 13:01:40

is the RegistryBooster or the "triple package" designed for Windows 7?

I get an error message thet the power Suite is unable to open. If I uninstall and reinstall from the website, can I use my same Serial number to activate it? Please advise.

    By Jeff2009-11-04 10:18:25

Toni, You can go into the settings and tell Registry Booster not to scan on every log in. Chances are that in your previous session, the registry picked up some clutter so the program is simply doing its job by keeping the registry clean.

    By toni2009-11-03 21:06:34

I recently purchased this product. Naturally it's first scan revealed over 400 errors. What confuses me is that every time I log on, it tells me to scan for errors and there always are some, even after I've supposedly have corrected them using their product. Scam>? Should I get out. If it's already fixed the problem..then why should it keep repeating? Doesn't make sense to me. Anyone have any truthful info about Uniblue, I greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Any chance that I can clean my two computers with one purchase?

Brian, RegistryBooster 2010 has just been released and there will be a full review of RegistryBooster 2010 posted on the site as soon as it is completed.

    By Brian2009-10-05 14:28:27

Will there be a RegistryBooster 2010 coming out soon? I use the product regularly and was wondering if they will be adding new features to it. Thanks.

    By MelissaMoose2009-08-12 08:08:47

I bought UniBlue RegistryBooster after I suffered a horrible fate at the hands of another reg. cleaner. I have now had it for 8 months and NO PROBLEMS! I am finally taking the step today to step up to the triple package deal. I have faith in Uniblue, my computer runs amazingly faster, no hang ups, no crashes nothing. I am not a computer geek in any way shape or form. Just someone who could not afford to replace her computer and needed help. I also found that when I had a question they answered almost immediately. So this is a great add to anyones computer. No frills no spills but it gets the job done and does it well.

    By Ben2009-08-02 10:12:27

Sounds more like a faulty computer. With that many errors, you probably let it go too far before trying to fix it. I have been using RegistryBooster for years and it has never failed me. People need to be more proactive when it comes to fixing and diagnosing computer problems. Not sure if there is a solution to your problem – anybody else ever have this problem?

    By niko2009-08-01 18:44:07

RegistryBooster hangs on my pc... Does the scan and finds 2343 correctable items. The OK button visually depresses, but does not make the dialog box go away, and no other button (nor teh "X" to close software) functions. Faulty program?

    By brittan2009-06-24 19:18:30

thanks

    By Randy2009-05-26 10:20:45

Mike, When you do a free scan with RegistryBooster, the program lets you know if there are any errors in your registry. If it does not find any errors, there is no reason to buy the program. Simply uninstall it and it goes away. It is never mentioned that it is a “free” program as you put it. You get a “free” scan to see if the utility can help your computer.

    By Mike2009-05-25 11:02:08

What you did not review was the reason I avoid these "free" scans- If I choose not to buy: 1) Does the program keep running in the background even though I don't want it? 2) Does it have a popup once a day or 3 times a day reminding me I should BUY their program? 3) If I don't want to buy their program, can I get rid of the thing off my computer so I stop using resources for the particular "free" program I will never use again?

    By Randy2009-05-15 07:49:25

Denise, The review does say you will need to purchase RegistryBooster to fix any problems. In the third paragraph, “It offers a Free Scan so you can try it to see if your registry is corrupt. If it isn’t corrupt, there is no need to buy the utility but if there are problems with your registry you will need to purchase RegistryBooster to fix any problems the program may find.” The price is $29.95 – sorry for the confusion.

    By Denise2009-05-14 21:23:02

I downloaded and installed RegistryBooster 2009 and found over 200 registry errors and was prompted to buy the full version because the freeware will only repair 15 errors. Your review doesn't make it clear that you had to purchase the software nor does it mention the price.

how do i download a youtube video to my computer after i downloaded uniblue registry booster??

    By Dave2009-02-24 10:24:15

Registry Booster took a long time to install due to the installation of the Microsoft .NET Framework but that is no fault of the RegistryBooster program. It was worth it though – found 764 registry errors and fixed them all. My computer runs noticeably faster too. When you are installing the .NET framework just give it some time, it does install.
